Is Venom a villain?

Considering the complexity of Venom's character, wouldn't it be more accurate to ask, "Is Venom inherently a villain, or is his status as one influenced by his circumstances and the actions of those around him?" After all, he's a symbiote bonded to a human host, and his motivations and actions are often driven by the needs and desires of both the symbiote and the host. Does this make him inherently evil, or does his status as a villain depend on how he chooses to use his powers and what he values? It's a question worth considering, don't you think?
