How can I find the dog?

Excuse me, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I seem to have lost my dog, and I'm not sure how to proceed in finding him. Could you possibly offer some guidance? I've already checked the immediate area, but no sign of him. Should I put up flyers with his description? Should I contact the local shelters or animal control? What other steps could I take to increase the chances of finding my beloved pet? Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
