Is gnosis chain on Ethereum?

Could you please clarify for me if the Gnosis Chain is indeed operating on the Ethereum network? I've been hearing a lot about it recently and am trying to understand its relationship with Ethereum. Is it a separate blockchain entirely, or does it somehow integrate with or rely on the Ethereum blockchain? If it does operate on Ethereum, how does it do so?
