Can I see who sent me Monero?

I'm curious, can I actually view who sent me Monero? I've been hearing about the privacy features of this cryptocurrency, but I'm still not entirely sure how it works. Does the sender's identity remain completely anonymous, or is there some way for me to at least trace the transaction back to its origin?
