Is MetaMask still safe?

I've been hearing a lot of buzz around MetaMask lately, and I'm starting to wonder if it's still safe to use. I remember when it first came out, it was hailed as a revolutionary tool for crypto enthusiasts, but now with so many new players in the market, I'm not so sure.
