Can someone copy an NFT?

I'm curious about something related to NFTs. Can someone actually copy an NFT? I've heard about their uniqueness and how they represent ownership of digital assets, but doesn't copying digital content kind of defeat the purpose of their exclusivity? Is there a way to prevent this? Or are NFTs simply based on trust and the honor system? I'm just trying to understand the intricacies of this new and exciting field of cryptocurrency and digital art.
