Is buying WBTC the same as BTC?

Excuse me, I'm a bit confused about this matter. Could you clarify for me whether purchasing WBTC is equivalent to buying BTC? I've heard about Wrapped Bitcoin, but I'm not quite sure how it differs from the original Bitcoin. Does investing in WBTC mean I'm essentially holding BTC?
