Is USDC risk free?

I've been hearing a lot about USDC recently, and it seems to be gaining popularity in the cryptocurrency community. But I'm a bit cautious about investing in it. Could you please clarify if USDC is really risk-free? I understand it's supposed to be a stablecoin backed by the US dollar, but there's always a chance of something unexpected happening, isn't there?
