How safe is South Korea for female tourists?

I'm planning a trip to South Korea soon, and I'm really excited about it. However, as a female traveler, I'm also concerned about my safety. I've heard some reports about sexual harassment and assault in South Korea, so I'm wondering how safe it really is for female tourists?
