Can my money be stolen from Binance?

I've heard a lot about the security breaches at cryptocurrency exchanges recently, and it's making me really nervous about my investments. I use Binance to trade and store my crypto, so I'm wondering, can my money really be stolen from Binance? I've seen some people saying that it's not safe to leave your crypto on an exchange, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. Can you explain the risks and how to protect my assets on Binance?
