Bitcoin Throughput About 3 TPS with SHRINCS, Blockstream Submits Quantum-Resistant Upgrade Proposal

OdailyOdaily

Odaily News: Blockstream has submitted a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal, suggesting specific upgrades for its post-quantum signature scheme SHRINCS. SHRINCS has completed production testing on Blockstream's Liquid sidechain, with a minimum signature size of 548 bytes, about nine times larger than Bitcoin's existing 64-byte Schnorr signatures, but smaller than NIST-approved schemes like SPHINCS+. Blockstream research shows that if SHRINCS is adopted, Bitcoin throughput could remain at about 3 TPS, close to current levels; if NIST-approved schemes are adopted, throughput could drop to 0.36 to 0.5 TPS.
