Studds is a fundamentally strong, debt-free and well-managed company that leads the Indian helmet market. Overall, Studds is expanding smartly and profitably, becoming more efficient every year.

At the upper band of ₹585 per share, the IPO values Studds at approximately 33 times its FY25 earnings.

Put simply, a P/E ratio of 33 means that investors are paying ₹33 for every ₹1 of profit that Studds made last year. While this is a premium valuation, it is justified by Studds’ strong brand, leadership and growth potential.

Its EV/EBITDA multiple is 21.6, supported by robust earnings and a debt-free balance sheet. However, no other listed company matches its global scale, so comparisons are limited and valuing Studds purely depends on how optimistic investors are about the growth in demand for helmets.

Strength & Risks Consideration

When analyzing Studds Accessories and deciding whether to invest in this company, it is crucial to consider its strength and relavent risks.

Strength to Consider Risks to Weigh
  • Market leadership: With a dominant share in the domestic two-wheeler helmet space and strong global volume presence, Studds commands scale and brand recognition.
  • Strong Profitability: In FY25, revenue stood at ₹583.8 crore and net profit at ₹69.64 crore. Its EBITDA margin rose sharply from 12% in FY23 to nearly 18% in FY25. For every ₹100 earned, Studds keeps roughly ₹18 as operating profit before interest and tax.
  • Clean balance sheet: Limited or manageable debt levels position the company to invest in growth without excessive financial risk.
  • Raw-material & supply-chain dependencies: Helmet manufacturing involves specific plastics, foam and safety materials—any disruption or cost spike can hit margins.
  • Geographic Concentration: All manufacturing is located in Faridabad. Any local disruption, from power outages to labor unrest, could halt production.
  • Limited fresh capital: Since the IPO is purely OFS, there is no fresh capital infusion for expansion—growth will rely on internal accruals and existing resources.
  • Non-Compliance Issues: Past lapses in legal filings, like incorrect share allotments and late foreign investment forms, could invite penalties.

Studds Accessories vs. Peer Comparison

Comparing Studds with its peers in the protective gear and manufacturing segment provides valuable context for understanding its valuation and growth prospects. For instance:

Studds leads the industry in both size and market reach. In FY24, it reported revenue of ₹529 crore, surpassing Vega’s ₹474 crore and Steelbird’s ₹210 crore, which underscores its robust market presence.

In terms of profitability, Studds generated a profit of ₹57 crore in FY24, exceeding Vega’s profit of ₹53 crore and Steelbird’s ₹27 crore. This indicates that Studds retains a greater portion of its sales revenue after accounting for costs.

Studds adopts a conservative approach to debt management, evidenced by a Net Debt to Equity ratio of 0.07, signifying minimal borrowings. In contrast, both Vega and Steelbird carry higher levels of debt, which introduces additional financial risk.

The EBITDA margin—reflecting profitability from core operations before interest and tax—is slightly lower for Studds at 17%, compared to Vega’s 18.8% and Steelbird’s 19.3%.

Return on Capital Employed (RoCE) serves as an indicator of efficiency in capital utilization; here, Studds’ RoCE stands at 19%, trailing behind Vega’s 21% and Steelbird’s impressive 37%. This suggests that competitors may be leveraging their investments more effectively.

It is essential to recognize that there are no publicly listed companies that precisely match the scale or business model of Studds Accessories. Therefore, while comparisons with peers provide some insights, Studds occupies a unique position within the market due to its distinct global stature—limiting direct valuation comparisons.

Studds Accessories Future Outlook

Studds Accessories benefits from a strong brand recognition, global presence, diverse product range, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and a leading market position in the helmet and two-wheeler accessories in India supports its long-term growth potential. Looking ahead, key growth drivers for Studds will include:

  • Export expansion: Increasing sales in Europe, Americas and Asia to leverage higher margins and diversify markets.
  • Product portfolio growth: Launching premium helmets, lifestyle protective gear, smart helmets or connected gear could elevate margins and brand positioning.
  • Capacity and cost improvements: New manufacturing facility(s) could enhance scale economies.

If these initiatives succeed, Studds could achieve mid-to-high single-digit to double-digit growth within the next three to five years. However, dependence on key suppliers, fluctuations in the price of raw materials, negative cash flow and high competition in the market are some of the major concerns. If export growth stalls, margin pressure increases or brand dynamics shift, performance could be constrained.

Conclusion

Studds Accessories’ IPO tells a compelling story: market leadership in a growing safety gear segment, strong brand equity, an export footprint, and institutional backing. While the price band of ₹557–585 implies elevated expectations, it is nevertheless aligned with the company’s growth potential and leadership position.

For long-term investors who believe in rising safety awareness, brand-led expansion and strong operational discipline, Studds appears to be a robust business. However, those seeking short-term profits should bear in mind that this is an OFS and no new money will go into the business itself.
