Germany Plans to End Tax Exemption for Bitcoin and Other Crypto Assets Purchased After 2027
Odaily News: Bitcoin News posted on X that, according to WELT, the German Ministry of Finance is drafting a tax reform plan to tax gains from Bitcoin and other crypto assets purchased after December 31, 2026, without applying the holding period exemption. Existing holdings will still be subject to current rules, meaning they can be sold tax-free after being held for more than one year. The relevant law is planned to take effect in 2027, with the first tax withholding possibly starting in 2028. The draft is still in its early stages and may be adjusted later.
