Kaspa is a decentralized, open-source, and scalable Layer 1 solution.

The project was founded by Yonatan Sompolinsky. Sompolinsky is also one of the authors of the GHOST-DAG protocol, which serves as Kaspa’s underlying consensus mechanism.

Kaspa claims to be the ‘fastest and most scalable instant confirmation transaction layer ever built on a proof-of-work engine’.

KAS is the project’s native currency and is used for all on-chain transactions, as well as for distributing mining rewards. As a Layer-1, KAS is not a token; hence, the reference to it as a ‘coin.’
